Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is proud to offer the community Empire Safety Council's, in-person, defensive driving course.

By taking this course, you may be eligible to reduce as many as four (4) points on your driving record. If you are the principal operator of a motor vehicle, you will receive a 10% reduction in the base rate of your automobile and motorcycle liability and collision insurance premiums each year for three years. Every student will receive two completion certificates in the mail and ALL completions are transmitted to the DMV to be posted to your driving record.

Course Schedule

Classes take place on Saturdays at Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York, 100 Bryant Woods South, Amherst, NY 14228. Registration begins at 8:30am and the class takes place from 9:00AM until 3:00PM. Each class has a 30 minute lunch break.

Instructors

Faye Sokol

Faye is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a BS in Education. She earned her Masters Degree from the University of Memphis with an emphasis on Adult Education, Corporate Training, and Curriculum Development. Experienced in sales and management with several large corporations, she has attended national seminars in that capacity. She has taught the Defensive Driving Course for six years, as well as other classes through Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York.

Debbie Johnson

Debbie has been with Better Business Bureau since 2011 and is currently the Advertising Review Coordinator. The Advertising Review Program ensures that businesses comply with BBB’s Code of Advertising. This role is critical in conveying the accountability and standards of Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York and maintain the confidence of Accredited Businesses in the value proposition of the BBB brand.

Since 2013, Debbie assisted with registration and paperwork for the driving class. Debbie is now happy to be one of the instructors of the Empire Safety Council’s Accident Prevention Workshop.

Bruce Corris

Bruce Corris has been teaching the Empire Safety Council's defensive driving class class since 2012, and has extensive experience in communications and education.

Bruce is president of BMD Publishing, a division of Market Domination LLC in Williamsville. He previously was a multiple Emmy-award winning journalist who managed numerous TV newsrooms and built Buffalo’s first new television news department in nearly 50 years. His teaching experience includes serving as an adjunct professor in the communications department at Buffalo State College. Bruce is an active community volunteer. He is President of Congregation Shir Shalom in Williamsville; helped create Walk Off Hunger, one of the largest fundraisers of the year for the Food Bank of WNY; and serves on the board of the Sweet Home Alumni Association.
